Royal Puma successfully defends men’s Cup

Royal Puma successfully defended their first challenge of the FFAS National Cup for the men’s division of the 2018 FFAS National League with an 8-0 over challenger, Black Roses.

In other games, it was Tafuna Jets 2, Lion Heart 1; Utulei Youth 3, Vaiala Tongan 1; Ilaoa & To’omata 4, Taputimu Youth 0; PanSa 4, Green Bay 1 and Pago Youth A 11, Pago Youth B 2.

Royal Puma struggled for a bit in the first 10 minutes of the game against Black Roses as the game went back and forth from one side of the field to the other with no clear dominant team.

But Royal Puma soon got into a groove with Walter Pati and they never looked back. At the end of the game Pati walked away with six goals scored, a double hat trick for the day. Royal Puma led 5-0 after the first half and scored three more in the second to make up the game’s final tally.

They will put up their cup this coming week against Pago Youth B.

TAFUNA JETS 2, LION HEART 1

Jericho Fa’aliga scored the game winning goal for the Tafuna Jets to help beat one of the league’s toughest teams, Lion Heart, 2-1 last Saturday.

Both teams were evenly matched and closed out the first half tied, 0-0. In the second half Charmaney Faatupuinati scored for Lion Heart to draw first blood, but two goals coming within 10 minutes of each other late in the second half sealed it for the Jets.

Harry Mata’u blasted a shot from midfield that just dropped over the head of Lion Heart’s goalie for their first goal, and Fa’aliga finished it with his goal for the win.

The Jets take on Utulei Youth on Match Day 3 while Lion Heart plays against Black Roses.

UTULEI YOUTH 3, VAIALA TONGAN 1

The first half ended in a 1-1 draw, but in the second half a brace from Austin Kaleopa helped Utulei Youth earn their first win of the season after last week’s draw with Lion Heart.

Vaiala Tongan has dropped two games in a row and will face Ilaoa & To’omata next Saturday while Utulei Youth plays against the Jets.

ILAOA & TO’OMATA 4, TAPUTIMU YOUTH 0

Toa Langkilde helped Ilaoa & To’omata break the game wide open for them with two goals in the last 10 minutes to secure their win against Taputimu Youth.

Even with Ilaoa & To’omata leading thanks to two goals scored by Joe Koroiadi, Taputimu Youth threatened with chances during the game. It wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the game that Ilaoa & To’omata put it away thanks to a pair of goals from Toa Langkilde.

PANSA 4, GREEN BAY 1

PanSa scored two goals in each half to win 4-1

Green Bay scored a consolation goal late in the second half.

PAGO YOUTH A 11, PAGO YOUTH B 2

Eight players scored 11 goals for Pago A in their 11-2 romp over their club’s second team of the competition, Pago Youth B.

Fiatele Pulesala finished with a hat trick, Joseph Collins scored twice, while Roy Ledoux, Gabriel Taumua, Rambo Tapui, Puni Chantu, Ricky Faamoana and Casper Kuresa scored a goal each.
