FFAS 5-a-side playoffs underway

It is a six-team playoff format with the top two sitting out the first round with byes while the bottom four duke it out.
Last week Saturday the men’s Pool’s A & B held their first round matches while the second round kicks off on June 16 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
The women’s division will complete their round-robin competition on June 15 to determine the final seeding for the first round of their playoffs which will be held later that same day.
Utulei Youth completed the round-robin competition undefeated in Pool A and they sat out the first round bye with Pago Youth A. The other four teams making up the postseason were Lion Heart B, Black Roses, Kiwi Soccers and Vaitogi B.
Black Roses ousted Kiwi Soccers from the competition in a 7-2 match after a close first half saw Kiwi leading 2-1.
In the other semi-final, Vaitogi B edged Lion Heart B 7-5 after the former led at the end of the opening period 4-3.
Top seed Utulei Youth will take on Vaitogi B while Pago A plays against Black Roses in the second round of the playoffs on June 15.
Two teams, Lion Heart A and Ilaoa & To’omata, both ranked 3rd and 6th, respectively, were not eligible to compete in the postseason after forfeiting twice in the competition. By rule once a team forfeits two games they are automatically out of the competition.
Thus the top six in this group was Jets at No. 1, Pago B at No. 2 and followed by FC SKBC, Green Bay, Atu’u and Vaitogi A.
In the first round FC SKBC won by default over Vaitogi A while Green Bay held off Atu’u 5-4.
On June 15 the top seeded Jets take on Green Bay while Pago B plays against FC SKBC.
The current standings has Black Roses at No. 1 with 21 points while three teams are tied at 19 and by way of the first tiebreaker (goals difference) they are Jets, Kiwi and Utulei. PanSa is recorded at No. 5 but cannot play in the postseason because of two forfeits while at No. 6 is Pago Girls.
From No. 7 to 10 are Ilaoa & To’omata, Green Bay, Lion Heart and Vaitogi United, respectively. Ilaoa & To’omata moves into the top six in place of PanSa.
The Jets and Kiwi Soccers each have a round-robin match to complete to determine the final seedings before their first round of the playoffs starts.
The Jets take on Pago Girls while Kiwi faces Lion Heart both at 9 a.m. The team that finishes in second place gets a bye in the first round.
In the scheduled postseason its Jets/Kiwi vs. Ilaoa & To’omata while Utulei Youth takes on Pago Girls.
The completion of the 5-a-side playoffs will conclude on June 22, 2012 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
