Samoana, Tafuna to vie for HS girls’ soccer championships

This comes after both teams won the playoffs played on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at Kananafou Theological Seminary.
Tafuna beat Faga’itua 3-1 while the Sharks held off Leone 2-1 in varsity action. J-V games saw the Warriors hold off Leone 1-0 while Samoana won by default against Faga’itua.
VARSITY
WARRIORS 3, VIKINGS 1
Tafuna avenged a 3-1 loss against Faga’itua in their opeing match of the season on Jan. 8 by winning by the same margin.
At the end of the first half the Warriors were up 2-0 on goals by Beulah Oney and June Canales.
A goal midway through the second half gave Faga’itua some life and they threatened to tie the match with aggressive play but a goal from Fa’alolo’i Te’o near the end of the game put it out of reach.
SHARKS 2, LIONS 1
Two quick goals from Limu Tasimani and Lynn Tualaulelei in the first 10 minutes of the first half ended up being enough to hold on for the win in a very tough match against arch-rival Leone.
Mariah S. scored for the Lions in the second half and they walked away with many missed opportunities throughout the entire match that could have seen them overcome the lead for a ticket the championship match scheduled for Saturday, March 5, 2011.
J-V
WARRIORS 1, LIONS 0
Titiula Manuma went one-on-one with the goalie and won to score the game’s only goal late in the second half to push her team through to the final of the J-V division.
