Black Roses win women’s Futsal title

Their win, coupled with that of their men’s squad 40 minutes later, made it a double for the Black Roses club headed by President Saili Ott and husband/coach John Ott.
In the game for 3rd and 4th place, the Tafuna Jets edged Ilaoa & To’omata 4-2 behind a brace of goals from Fiso Letoi and supporting ones from Beulah Oney and Yena Kang.
Mary Ipiniu led the Leone-based team with a brace.
The division’s eventual MVP, Angela Sa’o, led the Black Roses to victory with seven goals against an opponent they struggled to beat during their seasonal meeting.
In that match the new FFAS Futsal champs walked away with a slight 3-2 lead and in the championship game they left nothing out as they led 3-0 before turning it into an 8-0 rout with 3:23 to play in the match.
The consolation goal for Utulei Youth came with 1:13 to play on a direct shot at goal by Margaret Nomaaea.
Black Roses, 2009 11-a-side champions, walked away with the championship trophy and $500 prize money.
Utulei Youth received $300 for finishing second in the league, Tafuna Jets $200 for third place and Ilaoa & To’omata $100 for fourth.
