Cougars stun top-seeded Sharks in playoffs

In the other semi-final the Kanana Fou Stallions beat the Faga’itua Vikings 5-1 to set up an all-private high schools’ final on Thursday, March 5 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
The top-seeded Sharks were dominated in this game by the No. 4 Cougars with chances galore coming from Fa’asao-Marist, but they always kept missing great scoring opportunities.
With three minutes left in the match and the game tied at 2-2, Vidya Singh curled a perfectly struck free kick that zipped past several defenders and the goalie for the game-winner.
It was her second goal of the match as Fa’asao-Marist had to play catch up the entire game.
Vaiula Afa scored twice for the Sharks, getting things started five minutes into the match. But Susan Godinet helped answer for the Cougars on a through pass from Singh to tie it up in the first half.
In the second Afa again scored after beating all four defenders in a breakaway run before blasting it past the goalie.
But Singh was there again to answer for the Cougars to tie it 2-2. Fa’asao-Marist went on to dominate possession of the ball and shots at goal, even point-blank shots that either went wide or went straight to the goalie’s hands.
Makereta Agatonu helped lead Kanana Fou to an all-private schools championship game thanks to four goals against the Faga’itua Vikings.
No. 2 Kanana Fou played true to form and standings by winning with ease over the No. 3 seeded Faga’itua.
Elisa Luani scored the fifth goal for Kanana Fou on a curving corner kick while Masae notched a goal for Faga’itua.
Kanana Fou and Fa’asao-Marist met only once during the season with that game ending in a 2-2 draw. This time there will be a winner, for sure.
