The ASHSAA girls’ soccer league kicked off on Saturday, January 21, 2017 for both the varsity and junior varsity divisions at the Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
Varsity defending champions Fa’asao-Marist Cougars did not play but in division results the Samoana Sharks beat Leone Lions 4-2 and South Pacific Academy Dolphins drew with the Tafuna Warriors 1-1.
In J-V games, defending champs Fa’asao-Marist started off their campaign with a big, 5-0 win over the Sharks while the Warriors beat Leone 3-0.
Games are scheduled for Saturdays only and the varsity division will run a single, round robin format plus two extra games. These two extra games will be played at the end of the round robin and have been pre-selected by the DOE’s Athletics Department.
Six high schools are participating in the varsity division — Fa’asao-Marist, Samoana, SPA, Tafuna, Leone and Faga’itua High School.
In the J-V bracket, five teams are vying in a double, round robin competition — Fa’asao-Marist, Samoana, Tafuna Leone and Faga’itua. The team with the most wins at the end of the double round robin format will be crowned champions.
