Elementary teams have two games to make playoff push

The playoff-push for the 2016 FFAS Private Elementary Schools Soccer League boils down to two games.

In all four divisions – Boys & Girls 3-5; Boys & Girls 6-8 – at least five to six teams have a shot at making the playoffs.

The battle for the top four is very close in the Boys Grades 6-8 Division, with the top four teams as follows – Iakina (18 points); defending champs St. Francis (15 points); Peteli Academy (13 points) and South Pacific Academy (9 points).

Pacific Horizons School (8 points) has also thrown their hat into the mix, after leapfrogging two spots up from No. 7 on Nov. 3 to No. 5 after a 5-2 win against St. Theresa on Nov. 9, 2016.

In other results from Nov. 9, it was Peteli 8, SPA 2; St. Francis 7, Samoa Baptist Academy 2, and Kanana Fou-1 15, Kanana Fou-2 0.

The hot seat in this group is the No. 4 spot currently held by SPA, and lining up to take it away from them are Pacific Horizons, SBA (7 points) and St. Theresa (7 points).

The mad dash starts with the first of the two remaining games tomorrow at the Kanana Fou Seminary field.

Up for grabs in this bracket are the No. 3 and No. 4 spots of the playoffs, with St. Francis (18 points) and Peteli Academy (18 points), having solid holds on the top two spots.

St. Theresa-1 is third with 10 points, and SPA fourth with 10 points, while defending champions Kanana Fou-1 and Kanana Fou-2 are in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, with nine points each.

Iakina, sitting at No. 7 with six points, has an outside shot if the other four ahead of it falter.
The difference in goals for and goals against does not favor No. 4 SPA, and No. 6 Kanana Fou-2 as both teams are in the negative with -6 apiece. S

Peteli Academy, the division’s winners from last year, are in sole possession of the top spot with 18 points, followed by Iakina with 15 points at No. 2, Kanana Fou-2 at No. 3 with 15 points, and St. Theresa-1 at No. 4 with 10 points.

Teams from the fifth spot to the ninth all have a shot at the fourth and final playoff spot occupied by St. Theresa-1. St. Theresa-2 is at No. 5 with nine points, followed by Kanana Fou-1 (No. 6), Pacific Horizons (No. 7) and SPA-1 (No. 8) all with eight points each, while SBA has seven points in the No. 9 spot.

The next two, remaining games for these nine teams are crucial in the final four chase.

Kanana Fou-1 and Pacific Horizons are tied with 18 points each for the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, with the former holding the differential in goals edge, 14-10.

SBA-1 is third with 16 points while Peteli is fourth with 15, followed by St. Theresa at No. 5 with 10, SPA-2 at No. 6 with nine points, Iakina Adventist Academy at No. 7 with seven points, and SBA-2 and Kanana Fou-2 at Nos. 8 and 9 with six and four points, respectively.

SBA-1 and Peteli Academy need to win at least one of their next two games, in order to secure their spots in the top four for the playoffs.

The playoffs and final will both be held on the same day, Nov. 22, 2016, with the games this Thursday to complete the round-robin competition.
