Black Roses, Tonga & Lion Heart challenge for cups

Black Roses, the only other team to win the FFAS National League title in the last four years other than Pago Youth A, will take on Pago A for the rights to the Division 1 FFAS National Cup at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.
In Division 2 Vaiala Tongan challenges cup holder Taputimu Youth at 2:20 p.m. while in the women’s competition Kiwi Soccers 1:10 p.m. puts their prize up against Lion Heart.
Pago A returns most of its back-to-back championship squad and also have a new net minder to protect their goal.
They have their speedsters Rambo Tapui and AJ Tualaulelei and will be tough to beat any day.
As for Black Roses, they have a totally revamped squad and are relying on experienced players Fau and Jeremiah Fe’a (brothers) as well as Tafuna Taulamago to lead their team against the defending champs.
In other games for Division 1 it’s Utulei Youth and Lion Heart A both seeking their first wins of the season going up against one another at 11:40 a.m. The other match at the same time features Vaitogi United looking to go 2-0 on the season against Pago Youth B.
Kiwi Soccers takes on the Tafuna Jets at 3:40 p.m. with the latter trying to win its first match of 2012.
Taputimu Youth is littered with very experienced and good players, led by Sonny Filiva’a, Bobby Nu’usila, Maika Molesi, Suani Save, Panweichi Kaleopa and Pepa Meredith. All five have played together before and are no strangers to one another.
Vaiala Tongan’s players are fit but not technically sound so they will have a tough time against the more experienced and better Taputimu Youth.
In other games PanSa and Green Bay play at 9:20 a.m. with both teams looking to earn their first win while Atu’u Broncos and Ilaoa & To’omata also play at the same time.
FC SKBC takes on Lion Heart B at 2:20 p.m.
The challengers this week, Lion Heart, have had a chance to scout Kiwi Soccers after sitting out the first round with a bye.
Lion Heart has not had a strong women’s team in the past years but they have reportedly stocked up with good players and will be giving Kiwi a strong challenge for the cup.
In other games it will be a rematch of the 2011 championship match with winners Pago Youth taking on Utulei Youth at 8:20 a.m.
Former cup holders Ilaoa & To’omata looks to rebound from their first round loss as they take on a championship caliber team in Black Roses at 10:40 a.m. Playing at the same time are the Tafuna Jets and Vaiala Tongan.
PanSa takes on Taputimu at 1:10 p.m.
