FFAS National Leagues in the midst of playoffs

The four-playoff berths came down to the last round with the No. 4 spot hotly contested among three teams — Tafuna Jets, Fagasa Youth and Kiwi Soccers.
For the men, it’s down to eight teams with Pools A and B’s semi-finals to kickoff alongside the women’s top 4 on Nov. 27 at Kananafou Theological Center.
The Tafuna Jets clinched the No. 4 playoff spot following an 11-0 whipping of Lion Heart and losses by the other two teams contesting for the spot — Fagasa and Kiwi. The latter two lost to the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively with Black Roses edging Fagasa 2-1 while Ilaoa & To’omata dispatched Kiwi 5-1.
No. 1 Black Roses will take on No. 4 Tafuna Jets while No. 2 Ilaoa & To’omata faces No. 3 Utulei Youth. The winners advance to the title match scheduled for Dec. 11, 2010.
If history repeats itself Black Roses should face Ilaoa & To’omata as the former blanked the Jets 7-0 while the latter edged Utulei 2-0.
The final standings after the completion of the round-robin is Black Roses at No. 1, followed by Ilaoa & To’omata, Utulei Youth and Tafuna Jets rounding out the top 4. From five to eight its Fagasa Youth, Kiwi Soccers, Green Bay and PanSa while the last four teams are Pago Youth, Vailoatai Youth, Lion Heart and Fagatogo Blue.
The first round of the pool playoffs was completed on Thanksgiving Day with the winners advancing to play each group’s top two squads.
In Pool A Kiwi Soccers avenged their pool-round loss to Ilaoa & To’omata by edging them 1-0 on a penalty kick late in the second half. They move up to play No. 2 Fagasa Youth, a team they drew 3-3 during their Nov. 6 match.
Utulei Youth scored two late goals to pull off a 3-1 win over a very feisty Tafuna Jets. Utulei now prepares for the group’s top team in Black Roses. Utulei lost to Black Roses 5-3 during their Oct. 2 meeting.
As for Pool B, Lion Heart won by default over a no-show PanSa to set up a date against the group’s best team in Pago Youth A while FC SKBC narrowly edged Lauli’i 2-1. SKBC will go against Vailoatai Youth.
Pago A beat Lion Heart 3-1 when they met on Oct. 16 while Vailoatai and SKBC drew 1-1 on Nov. 6.
