Samoana Sharks are unofficial J-V soccer champs

Their title will become official once the boys High School soccer league comes to an end on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 following the conclusion of the varsity final. The playoffs were held yesterday with the No. 1 South Pacific Academy Dolphins playing against the No. 4 Tafuna Warriors and the No. 2 Samoana Sharks taking on No. 3 Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats.
Samoana was behind the Faga’itua Vikings in the J-V standings until they tied it up with six points each following a 4-0 win on Monday, April 11. Two days later the two teams met for their second and final meeting of the season that coincidentally was to determine the division’s champions.
The Sharks did not fail to back up their 4-0 win on April 11 as they won 3-0 on April 13 to clinch the division title. There was no junior varsity division for soccer during the last two school years, 2014-2015 and 2013-2014.
Coach, Rev. Siavao Iese, of Samoana said he was thankful for the boys going through the season with no major injuries and that they were all excited after winning the J-V title.
This age group falls under the U-17 category and it is from this group FFAS have selected a training squad for the upcoming OFC international preliminary tournament that will be held in Samoa in July. The tournament is made up of American Samoa, Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga with the winner advancing to a second and final stage for the OFC Men’s U-17 tournament.
