FFAS Trio off to 61st FIFA Congress

The FIFA presidency is up for grabs with OFC as a whole already affirming its support for Joseph S. Blatter against challenger Mohamed Bin Hammam from Qatar.
“FFAS is in total support of OFC’s decision to back Blatter as he has done a lot of this region and for American Samoa as well,” explained Iuli. “So we look forward to going out there and voting for him to head FIFA for another four years.”
Iuli, Evagelia and Taumua head to Zurich, Switzerland via Hawaii, Los Angeles and Munich.
This will be Evagelia’s first trip as an FFAS executive member while it will be Iuli’s third time attending a FIFA Congress.
“I’m looking forward to it, meeting with various delegates from different nations in this upcoming congress,” he said.
FFAS will be casting its vote for the FIFA presidency for the first time. In 2006 the local soccer association voted for Blatter under the Normalization Committee.
“It is going to be a proud honor for me to cast our vote in FIFA’s election on behalf of FFAS and American Samoa,” Iuli said.
As for Taumua, this is the second FIFA Congress he will be attending but his first in Zurich.
“I am looking at this as a great opportunity to network with other fellow CEOs,” Taumua pointed out. “We have arranged a meeting with U.S. Soccer to discuss matters about a possible partnership between our two associations.
“One of the areas we hope U.S. Soccer can help us with is aiding the development of the game on the technical side.”
The trio leaves with the blessings of FFAS and the remaining members of the executive committee.
