Utulei hold off Lion Heart 2-1 in thriller

In the only other game of the division, FC SKBC won by forfeit over Vaiala Tongan A as the latter did not show up for their match.
Utulei is now the leader of men’s Division 1, National League standings as well as holders of the FFAS National Cup after the conclusion of last week’s match.
Ryan Samuelu had a hand in the two goals that saw Utulei Youth come back from a 1-0 deficit to beat what was then the division’s top team in Lion Heart.
He headed a corner kick from the far post towards Ne’emia Kaleopa who tapped it in for the winning goal late in the game. He also scored the equalizer after shooting a point blank shot that rebounded off the goalie and back to Samuelu for the second shot that did not miss.
Lion Heart scored in the 33rd minute on a brilliant cross from Sam Kome that Ufi Feagaimali’i put into the back of the net on the far post.
Both teams, littered with players from the recent OFC U-20 Championship in Fiji, showcased great passing and movement of the ball that had the crowd appreciating the brand of soccer being displayed.
Rueben Luvu, Paul Collins and Sam Kome for Lion Heart and Ne’emia Kaleopa, Kaleopa Siligi and Togo Vaieli for Utulei Youth have turned their respective teams into perrenial contenders for the National League title.
Their international tournament experiences have shown through in all games and especially in their head-to-head match this past Saturday.
Lion Heart is No. 2, followed by 2013 defending champions FC SKBC, Vaiala Tongan and PanSa at No. 5 at the end of the first round-robin.
The second round opens with SKBC challenging Utulei Youth for the Cup, Vaiala Tongan A facing off against PanSa and Lion Heart off with a bye.
