Jets repeat as women’s 7-A-Side Champs

The Tafuna Jets have repeated as champions of the 2014 FFAS Women’s 7-A-Side League after beating PanSa 4-1 on Saturday, June 7, at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
Agape scored twice for Tafuna while Leuma and Tagilima Lotoa each scored a goal apiece.
Tafuna scored two goals in each half against a depleted PanSa who were playing without two of their best players, Ora Ott and Angela Sao.
As for the Jets, Lotoa, named Most Valuable Player for the League, had great help in attackers Leuma and Agape while the defense was shored up tightly by Beulah Oney, Luaao Wasko and Sina Luani.
The back three were able to hold off PanSa with the exception of one attack when Ivette Herrera-Sopoaga dribbled through the midfield and launched a long-distance strike for her team’s only score.
PanSa went through to the championship match after winning by forfeit against Lion Heart because of a no-show while the Jets beat Utulei Youth 2-0 in a repeat of last year’s championship game.
Other awards handed out by members of the executive — Vice-President Sandra Fruean, Rev. Ioane Evagelia and Amio Mavaega-Luvu — included Coach of the League that went to the Jets’ Tuliafiafi Tauga and Golden Glove to Utulei’s Fiapa’ipa’i Siatu’u.
