Upsets galore during Private Elementary Schools soccer league playoffs

Five of the eight semi-final games ended in upsets during the playoffs for the 2017 FFAS Private Elementary Schools Soccer League on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Kanana Fou Seminary Field in Tafuna.

BOYS Grades 7-8

No. 1 Iakina, and 2016 defending champs, dominated this year, going through the round robin competition with a 7-1-0 record, and scored a-whopping 56 goals while allowing 11. They faced off against No. 4 South Pacific Academy, and in a David vs. Goliath battle, SPA won 1-0 on a late, game-winning goal.

No. 2 Samoa Baptist beat No. 3 Kanana Fou 2-0 in the other semi-final, setting up a No. 2 vs. No. 4 matchup for the championship game on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Samoa Baptist scored both goals in the first half, and in the second had to defend for their lives as Kanana Fou turned up the heat in their comeback attempt. SBA managed to hold firm for the win.
