FFAS President Fai’ivae responds to resignation statement by Head Coach David Jones.

FFAS President Fai’ivae Iuli Alex Godinet responds to the resignation statement released by Head Coach David Jones in an article with the Oceania Football Center 16th June 2024 stating in his remarks the primary reason for his departure,

“After considerable reflection and discussions with key stakeholders, it has become evident that there are significant differences in vision and approach between myself and the organization. These differences have made it increasingly challenging for me to effectively lead the team towards our shared goals.”

Fai’ivae responds, “Although there was no signed contract with Mr. David Jones, we had anticipated a long and prosperous working relationship heading into the American Samoa Men’s National Team preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. It has now come to an end.”

Fai’ivae adds, “Generally speaking, we can agree to disagree on certain matters. However, at the end of the day we come together united with one vision and shared goals. It is unfortunate David Jones feels that way. We of course wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Fai’ivae concludes, “In spite of his untimely withdrawal as the Head Coach for the American Samoa National Team, the Federation has been working with Thomas Rongen.”  Thomas Rongen who led the American Samoa team to the FIFA World Cup Qualifying in 2011 held in Apia, Samoa with a win over Tonga 2-1 that sparked and set the stage for the birth of the “Next Goal Wins” documentary and later movie, comedy by Taika Waititi.

The Federation has yet to announce who will take over the reins but, will be looking for someone who will be aligned with a common vision and goals of Football Federation American Samoa.
