ASHSAA Girls Soccer League has been postponed due to the cancellation of schools for the week of Feb. 12-17, 2018.
Schools have been canceled after severe winds from Tropical Storm Gita came through American Samoa on Feb. 8, 2018, leaving behind extensive damage in its wake. The Department of Education is using this week to assess damages to all the schools in the territory.
The league is expected to resume next week, and the DOE Athletics Department is currently working on a new schedule to accommodate the missed days caused by Tropical Storm Gita and the monsoonal trough that had also caused the cancelation of schools from Feb. 5-7, 2018.
“First of all our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and people of American Samoa and Samoa that have been deeply affected and displaced by Tropical Storm Gita,” explained FFAS CEO, Tavita Taumua. “Luckily for us, our field and compound was not damaged by the recent storm.”
There is no power in some schools and parts of American Samoa, hence one of the reasons for the cancellation of schools this week.
