Leone Lions clinch J-V title

Their win becomes official at the completion of the varsity championship contest scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.
In the other J-V match held that day, the Tafuna Warriors won by forfeit against the Wildcats while Nu’uuli Voc-Tech’s varsity team won by default against the Faga’itua Vikings.
In the varsity division the top team is Tafuna and they await the winner of the Crusaders-Lions’ playoff on Monday, April 12, 2010 in the division’s title game. That match is to be played at Kananafou with a kickoff time of 4:00 p.m.
In a moment of great sportsmanship, and as a form of passing on the championship baton to the new title holders, Leone and Samoana players huddled together to sing a hymn and say a short prayer after the game as their way of bidding the season farewell.
Leone went through the season with 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw to finish with 19 points, four clear of their closest competitor, Faga’itua. The Warriors finished with 13 points for third while Samoana had 10 and the Wildcats 1.
The MVP of the competiton will come from Leone’s team and that person will be announced during the awards ceremony that occurs right after the varsity championship game on April 14.
