ASHSAA Girls’ Soccer kicks off

Leone’s J-V and varsity teams took on the Tafuna Warriors in the only games played. Matches between the Samoana Sharks-Kananafou Stallions and Faga’itua Vikings-Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats were forfeited in favor of the Sharks and Vikings.
“Good luck to all the teams in the competition and I hope more girls join their schools soccer teams because it is great exercise, great fun and don’t forget we have scholarships to offer at the end of the school year to ASCC,” said FFAS President Iuli Alex Godinet, who was on hand to watch the games last Saturday.
Tafuna, 2nd place finishers last year, started off their 2011-2012 campaign with a 2-0 win over a short-haned Leone.
The Lions only had seven on the field but still gave the Warriors a tough fight, holding Tafuna to only a goal apiece in either half.
Tutasi Smith scored both goals for the Warriors.
There are eight teams competing in the varsity division — Leone, Tafuna, defending champs Samoana, Faga’itua, Kananafou, Nu’uuli Voc-Tech, Fa’asao-Marist and Iakina Adventist Academy.
The competition will go through two rounds followed by the playoffs for the top four teams.
Tafuna got off to an excellent start of their season with a 2-0 win over the Lions.
Only four teams are competing in the division — Tafuna, Leone, defending champs Samoana and Faga’itua.
There will be two rounds with the team finishing the season with the best record to be crowned champions.
