FFAS kicks off President’s Cup

The first round was held on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at Kananafou Theological Center.
Both teams played to a 0-0 stalemate and missed numerous chances at putting the game away with Lion Heart the most glaring of all as a penalty kick with two minutes to spare went over the cross bar.
In the end, with Lion Heart kicking first, they went five-for-five from the spot while Pago A’s second attempt missed badly to seal the match’s final tally.
In other close games it was PanSa 2, Tafuna Jets A 1; Kiwi Soccers 3, Utulei Youth 2 and Vailoatai Youth 4, Fagasa Youth 1. As for the rest of the other matches it was one-sided such as Green Bay 7, Tafuna Jets B 2; Black Roses 6, Lauli’i 1 and FC SKBC 6, Ilaoa & To’omata 1. Pago Youth B had a bye.
The seven winning teams and Pago Youth B will have another draw this coming Saturday to determine the next matchups for the second round of the inaugural President’s Cup which kicks off on Oct. 30, 2010.
PANSA 2, TAFUNA JETS A 1
PanSa jumped to a first half, 2-0 lead with goals from Nissan Penitusi and D’Angelo Herrera.
Henry Shaft of Jets A cut that deficit by one with an indivdual goal late in the second half.
KIWI SOCCERS 3, UTULEI YOUTH 2
Kiwi Soccers advanced to the next round by way of an own goal in the second half to give them a 3-2 win.
They were fortunate to get their first two goals on penalty kicks by Danny Mulitalo on bad positioning by Utulei defenders that led to desperate tackles inside the box.
Both teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first half with Utulei’s goals coming from Mau Kaleopa and Terrence ‘Pati’ Sinapati.
VAILOATAI YOUTH 4, FAGASA YOUTH 1
Both teams went into the 60th minute even at one-apiece before Tanielu broke the tie for a 2-1 lead and Vailoatai drew inspiration from that goal to put the match away 4-1.
FC SKBC 6, ILAOA & TO’OMATA 1
Gun Chul Kang and Jinyong Lee led FC SKBC to a 6-1 win with a pair of braces to advance to the next round of the cup knockout tournament.
GREEN BAY 7, TAFUNA JETS B 3
Green Bay jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half before Sani scored two in the second half to make it an interesting 3-2 match.
But after those goals Green Bay turned it up a notch and rained five second half goals upon Jets B.
BLACK ROSES 6, LAULI’I 1
Bob Nu’usila dropped four goals on Lauli’i to help the Black Roses through to the next round with a 6-1 showing.
